With just 30 minutes left in the clock, a goal-hungry Karim Benzema converts a horrendous mistake by PSG goalie Gianluigi Donnarumma into a goal. The Frenchman then produced two world-class finishes to complete his hattrick and carry Real Madrid to the quarter-finals. The Benzema-led Madrid side did the unthinkable, they knocked out a star-studded PSG after losing 2-0 in the first half. Then, at that point, came the 96th-minute victory in the second leg against Chelsea. Presently he scored around the same time against City.

It was his fifteenth goal in this season's Champions League, just two short of a record set by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013-14 when Benzema accompanied him. He has scored in each knockout game he has played - Three against PSG, three against City, four against Chelsea. He completed as top scorer in La Liga, on 27. Additionally, 12 helps. He has 44 goals in 45 games this season.

Among the few records that Benzema broke in the 2021/22 season, the most treasured one must be going past French legend Theirry Henry's goals tally. Benzema as of now has scored 414 career goals for both club and country, three more than the legend Henry.

At 34 years old years and 108 days, Karim Benzema made history by becoming the oldest player to score a hattrick in a UEFA Champions League game. He broke the record of his French colleague Olivier Giroud who scored a hattrick at 34 years and 82 days.

He is the second-highest scorer in Madrid's pool of legendary goal scorers. He has 323 goals for Madrid and that is without taking a penalty for 7 years. Just Lionel Messi and Ronaldo have scored more in the Champions League. He is the best No 9 on the planet. For quite a long time, it wasn’t about the goals at all, the idea he could end near the top of those charts was not really contemplated, including by him. The exceptional French striker finally gets back to the best version of himself, leading his club and country to the pinnacle of the game.
