Every IPL season brings something fresh to the table but providing a platform for the budding talents of cricket is a constant. India and cricket are synonymous terms; one can’t separate the two. IPL is that one tournament of the year where cricket fans get to see the potential of young Indian cricketers coming from all corners of the country. India’s first-division cricket has always been the premise of the team’s international greatness; tournaments like Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy serve as a launching pad for IPL players. The inclusion of two new teams brings more young faces to the pool; In total 10 teams are competing this year to win the trophy. Here are some of the most promising young players who’ve already made a mark in the best T20 league in the world.

Ayush Badoni (22) - An unknown face to Indian cricket fans, Ayush Badoni is playing his first-ever IPL season. Badoni is a right-handed batter who plays for the new IPL franchise Lucknow Supergiants; he was signed for his base price of 20 lakh. But Badoni has already shown his worth to the IPL side, his 54-run knock helped the ailing LSG batting order to put up a respectable total of 155 against Gujarat Titans. Ayush Badoni hasn’t for once seemed out of place for the debutante Lucknow SuperGiants. Delhi-born Badoni was a part of the Indian U19 team back in 2018; he made his debut in domestic cricket for Delhi during the 2020/21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in January 2021. Badoni is too good for a player with so little experience; In fact, he had batted only once in five T20 matches for Delhi where he scored eight runs. He began the season with a 54-run knock against the Gujarat Titans (GT) and has since played crucial knocks of 19*, 19*, and 10* off three balls against DC.

Tilak Varma (19) - He was signed for Rs 1.7 crore by Mumbai Indians(MI), 8.5 times more than his base price of 20 Lakh. MI had to beat the likes of Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad to sign him and that tells a lot about his potential. Varma was one of the shining stars of India’s Under-19 team that won the world cup in South Africa earlier this year. Varma is a left-handed batter who bowls right-arm off-spin and plays for Hyderabad in domestic cricket. The 19-year-old boasts an explosive strike rate of 155 in his four IPL matches; scoring a total of 121 runs with an average of 40.33. He played an outstanding knock of 61 against Rajasthan Royals and played an impressive 38-run knock against Kolkata KnightRiders. Born to electrician Namboori Nagaraju, things never came easy for the Hyderabad batter. Varma’s father struggled to afford his cricket coaching fee and he had to face many hardships to reach this level.

Umran Malik (22) - Two words that describe Umran Malik in the best way are ‘raw speed’; the Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) speedster holds a record for the fastest delivery (152.95 km) by an Indian in IPL history. Named ‘Jammu Express’ the right-arm fast hails was signed by SRH in 2021; since then the pacer has played a total of six matches. He holds quite an impressive record of taking four wickets in six matches including three from last season. Earlier in February, he made his first appearance in Ranji Trophy for Jammu and Kashmir and since then he has taken seven wickets in three matches. For a raw pace-hungry country like India, Umar is a very unique player who could regularly rack up speeds of 150 plus. It is of topmost priority to utilise the raw talent as it can give any country a uniqueness in the International cricket.
